Issue #1: Laptop Randomly Turns Off
This is quite annoying and defeats the purpose of having a mobile computer if you keep on plugging it to the AC for continuous use. The possible reasons for this issue are:

  • AC power adaptor sensing an overload of power drain
  • Overheating processor due to a build of internal dust (clogged fan)
  • AC power adaptor not able to sustain normal power needs (faulty power adaptor)
  • Battery overheating, due to internal battery fault, or charging levels
  • Intermittent short circuit or open connection (check condition of power leads)
  • If your laptop is a bit old, it must be because of its poor cooling. To prove that point, try to go somewhere where it’s not hot, an airconditioned place and see it helps. Also, check the areas near the internal cooling fan; it might need some dusting due to dust fiber build up.

Issue #2: Laptop is frozen, no response to keyboard or mouse, cannot Shutdown
Don’t panic, you are not alone! And there are easy ways to solve this problem.

  • Disconnect the laptop power cord
  • Remove the battery from the laptop
  • Wait a short while (10 seconds)
  • Replace the Laptop battery into the unit
  • Reconnect the Laptop Power cord
  • Turn the Laptop on
  • Issue #3: Laptop is slow and continually shows Internet popups

Check for spyware running on your laptop. You might not notice it but spywares are installed sometimes transferred to your computer when you download ‘unknown’ free software or when you link to free music Internet programs. Remove the spyware and to prevent it from getting downloaded on your laptop, try using a spybot.

Issue #4: The battery pack will not charge
The battery pack is exposed to an greatly hot or cold environment. Put the battery in a proper environment and after it returns to normal temperature try again. Worst is the battery maybe bad and may need to be replaced.

Issue #5: Laptop LCD screen is solid white color or garbled
Do connect an external computer monitor to the laptop to check. If the external monitor display is okay, then you have a problem with the Laptop LCD screen or the LCD cable connection. If the external monitor image is the same as on the Laptop LCD, then it is likely to be a faulty integrated onboard video, this means replacing the motherboard of the Laptop.

Issue #6: Spilled Liquid on Laptop

Oh no! This happens when you put an uncovered drink beside your laptop or just plain clumsiness. Good thing this is recoverable in most cases. Here are some suggestions to help ensure laptop is okay.

  • Turn off the laptop immediately when a spill occurs. invert the laptop and leave the unit upside down to drain it. Let it dry for 20-30 minutes (still in upside-down position). Remove any attached leads, the power unit and the battery. Allow them to dry overnight. This is to avoid short circuit due to conductive nature of wet liquid.
  • Have someone remove the keyboard assembly to remove any liquid residual While the keyboard is removed, use a bright light and magnifying lens to inspect areas where the liquid made contact.
  • Issue #7: Laptop won’t boot up properly
There are many things that can go wrong with the operating system and other software on laptops. Many laptops have customised software installed according to a persons needs.

One easy trick is to try to go into Safemode. Press the F8 key on your keyboard during startup and try to clean up your laptop using antivirus. If the need arises to reformat the laptop, reinstall the operating system from the CDs that were supplied with the laptop. You will need all the drivers CD’s at the time of installation. If you don’t know how to do this, time to ask some help from the expert.
