Acer Aspire 4520 - Fix Realtek HD Audio Install Failure
If you are having a hard time installing Realtek High Definition Audio device on Windows XP with Acer Aspire 4520 then this might help you to solve that problem. Below are the errors that can be solve when following this guide.
1. “Install Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure”, when trying to install the Realtek HD Audio driver.
2. “Unable to find appropriate device drivers” after installing the Realtek HD Audio driver from the Acer Aspire 4520 resource cd.
3. Can’t remove or update the Realtek HD Audio device from the device manager.
Based on my experience, the Realtek HD audio device driver which came from the Acer Aspire 4520 doesn’t work though the installation went fine, so you have to download this Realtek HD audio driver.
If you have previous installation of the Realtek HD Audio driver then uninstall it first.
4. Open control panel, then Add/Remove programs, click on Realtek High Definition Audio driver and click remove button.
5. After uninstalling the Realtek High Definition audio driver, Open the Device Manager and look for the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio, Disable it and then remove. You will not be able to remove this device if you will not going to disable it first.

6. Install the downloaded Realtek HD Audio driver then restart when ask to do so.
Thats all about it, you should have a working audio device after the reboot.

Thank you!fixed the problem in a jiffy after reading this.but one thing to be noted is that, this problem doesn’t happen in all versions of windows XP,and hence the problem is not with the driver provided.for instance,my laptop initially had a volume copy of XP,then i installed the driver and it worked fine.but yesterday i installed from another XP disk, but this copy showed the driver problem as you described. But,thanks to your solution, could fix it easily!

hey iv got an unusual audio problem 4 my acer 4520,i followed the above steps…but it didnt work….only sumtimes the realtek driver is detected and the sound comes…but wen i restart the laptop….the sound goes off again…i keep on uninstalling and reinstalling the driver over n over again and only sumtimes it works….pls sum1 help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wolfwood16 @ 12:40 am:
hi there,
i think i would agree with sisira. I’m using XP Media Center Edition XP2 but and it’s not working. Followed the steps you’v provided but the sound card driver isn’t working over again everytime i restart the system though on luck it’ll work. The laptop beeps from the speaker everytime i would let it beep (For example, i’ll let it get an error msg). So i assume there’s no defects on my speaker nor on my sound card. But one thing is, for about a couple of years, i’m using the default driver from the CD Driver and i’d encountered this problem last 2 days ago when i installed Keyword Elite. Since it was a software and assume that it had cause sound drivers to malfunction. So i did a System Restore, but still no luck.
Any last resort?
Thank you in advance…

Dear friends: I have an Acer Aspire 4520 and when I install the Bluetooth device it sais that there is no device found. I want the bluetooth so I can share the image from My cel to the Laptop. Any Idea on how to Fix the problem. Because it is driving me crazy I can´t use the BT and There is a buton to activate it but when I try it says that. (no device found).
THKS
Batman @ 7:52 am:
Agustin,
your laptop doesn’t come with a bluetooth module installed, even though there is bluetooth button. you have to buy a bluetooth dongle if you want to connect your phone to your laptop via bluetooth.
hope it helps.
Agustin @ 2:20 pm:
Thank you very much. I know preety much about computers. I´m from Argentina, yet I don´t know what is a dongle. Can u explain me??
THKS
PS: May be I can´t recognice the word dongle. Is it some kind of soft??
thxs again
Batman @ 12:13 am:
Agustin,
it’s a piece of hardware (an adapter) you connect to your computer through usb, check them out at the link below. I suggest you get the micro or tiny type as they are small enough that you barely notice that it’s there and you don’t need to unplug it if you go mobile.

you can also get one from here.

TLF179er,
Try to download and install the latest driver from the link below
ftp://WebUser:DAx7h9V@202.65.194.212/pc/audio/WDM_R229.zip
Make sure to uninstall the Microsoft High Definition Audio patch first, you also need to uninstall your old realtek HD audio driver, and make sure to remove the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for HD audio device (please refer to the above steps).
Restart your computer and install above driver.
I hope it works for you.

Mr Nick @ 8:08 am:
Hi, I tried all those before but still my audio isn’t working at all. Please help me by giving the solutions step by step. By the way, I scanned my PC with Everest Home Edition and it says that my motherboard is unknown but has a motherboard ID NL94510J86A.0025.2008.0107.1543
BUS Type Intel GTL
BUS Width 64-bit
Real Clock 600 Mhz
Effective Clock 600 Mhz
Bandwidth 4800 MB/s
I have Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
E4600 @ 2.40Ghz
2.39 Ghz, 0.99 GB of RAM
Currently using Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP 3
I did disable that and removed it under Add/Remove Programs, then installed the audio and my Genuine Intel Driver Installer says that my Audio Realtek is installed but still i can’t use or hear any sound from my speaker nor use programs that require audio devices. Thanks for reply ASAP.
Vincent @ 11:13 am:
Just check error on drive C and restart. The audio will be enabled. But it will go on the next starting.Again if you want to enable audio repeat error checking.

Hi, I’m having the same problem with my audio device, I have 4 partitions in my HDD (WinXP, WinXP64, Win7 32bits and Slackware 13(Linux)64bits) and in all my OS’s the sound device is not detected, some times works fine, but when I restart or shut down PC the device goes off again, I’m beginning to think it is a hardware problem, because when I run Slackware(linux) the system sends a message that says “The device was removed recently”, when actually the device is there.
I’m starting to think about buying an external audio device!!!

Hi Batman
I try to install the Realtek HD Audio Driver but was unsuccessful with the following message :
“NO DRIVER SUPPORTED IN THIS DRIVER PACKAGE”
Please help and advise what I should do next.
Thanks
Tom @ 9:37 pm:
Problem was very bad on my Acer laptop with realtek sound system. I have found it is due to a timing issue. If I log in to windows desktop too quickly, before the drivers are fully loaded the computer does not detect the sound card. I have to wait until the log in password appears, and after there is no more hard disk activity THEN log in. Works no every time.
ivan @ 6:25 am:
hey batman, i have the same problem with TLF179ER..
in the master volume audio properties, the device selected is bluetooth handsfree audio, not realtek HD audio output. the realtek device is not detected in the device manager..
sometimes when i booted my notebook, the realtek device is detected again, and the audio works fine..but now, even i restarted my laptop 10 times, the device cannot be detected anymore..
i have tried to follow the instruction above, installed the WRM186 and WRM229 driver, but it still not work. well, a moment after reboot, the realtek device is detected..but only for a few second, and then it become undetected again..
i also tried to manually add the realtek device by using add hardware in control panel. the device appear again, but the device status show “device cannot start (code 10)”..
is this only simple driver failure or should i bring my laptop to acer service center? thx
the_alaskan @ 9:44 am:
Hi! Thank you,the fix worked perfectly!
