Hibernating on Windows XP

I am posting this here just in case you don’t know this yet, hibernating your computer on windows xp.

hibernate windows xp

Enable Hibernation
A. Open your Control Panel and look for Power Options icon.

B. Click on Hibernate tab then click on “Enable Hibernation” checkbox. Click OK button.

How to Hibernate
1. Click on Start then click on Turn Off Computer.

2. When the Turn Off Computer window pop-ups press the Shift key and you should have the Standby button replaced with Hibernate.

3. Holding the Shift key still, click on the Hibernate button to initiate the hibernate sequence.

Alternatively, you can press the H key to hibernate directly without hitting the shift key.

That’s all about it.

Hello Mr. Wayne. What’s the difference between the hibernate and standby modes?

Batman @ 12:59 pm:

power saving. hibernate is totally off and writes your current session to your hard drive and you need to hit that power button again to start your computer and not just any key. The standby or sleep mode, your computer is just partially off and hitting any key will wake your computer up and it does not save your current session to your hard drive but in the ram, so if you will loose power while your computer is on standby mode you will loose your session too.

you might want to enable hibernation on the power options at the control panel before you can hibernate though.
