Linux Distros
What’s with Linux distros anyway?
well, nothing. I like Linux as much as i like windows, both have their own pros and cons, reasons when not to use linux and reasons when not to use windows. I don’t want to elaborate all of those reasons here. I just like to put my favorite linux distributions/variants here according to my personal preference.
Slackware - This is a BSD type linux, and the reason i like it so much because it’s close to my favorite bsd variants, the OpenBSD and the FreeBSD (eh!?) with slackware linux and fluxbox, man, it really rocks.
Redhat - This is a System V type linux and the first linux distro i’ve got my hand into since version 4.0, and was succeeded by the Fedora Linux. The redhat distro then become solely referring to the company and the enterprise version of RedHat.
Debian - Also a System V type of linux with a large community support, a popular and influential linux distro.
Mandrake/Mandriva - as far as i can remember, this linux distro was a derivative of redhat linux. I still remember that redhat linux name appearing on the screen during services initialization. anyway, more redhat power to mandrake and more success to Mandriva.
They are all free (before!?)
