VMWare Workstation - How to add IDE Drive

If you have VMWare workstation installed on a SATA drive then the default drive type when creating a virtual machine will be SCSI drive type. This is not a problem unless you find yourself installing OS such as Mikrotik routerOS or earlier windows versions which unfortunately doesn’t support SATA drives yet.

Here is how you can run those type of operating systems on VMWare workstation.

1. Be sure that the virtual machine you are trying to modify the setting is powered off.

2. Right click on the virtual machine that you want to add or modify the drive type and click settings. refer to the above image.

3. Click on the add button, then click on the hardware type to add, in this case it’s hard disk. Click next then click on “Create Virtual Disk” radio selection. Click next and then select the virtual disk type. select SCSI or IDE, refer to the image above.

4. After choosing the virtual disk type, click next and set the disk capacity, by default it’s 8GB of space. Check the allocate all disk space now and then click next and then click finish. You now have the drive type with the capacity of your choice which you can then install your choice of operating system.

That’s all about it, i hope i didn’t bored you.
