Linksys Network Optimizer for Gaming and VoIP

Linksys OGV200Linksys OGV200 is a network optimizer that sits between home router and broadband cable or DSL modem. It monitors data going through. It automatically detects time-sensitive data or traffic and prioritizes them accordingly.

Traffic prioritization helps make sure that your online games don’t lag when someone else on the network is surfing the web or sending email. The best thing about Linksys OGV200 is that it does it all automatically, meaning, it intelligently identify what traffic to prioritize to streamline your connection.

Features

Here is the physical configuration of the Linksys OGV200 Network Optimizer:

Home User — Home Gateway — OGV200 — Cable/DSL Modem — ISP

The LAN port of the OGV200 is connected to the home gateway and the WAN
port is connected to the cable/DSL modem.

The OGV200 works with cable and DSL connections (DHCP and PPPoE based).
PPTP is not yet supported.

QoS priority-based queuing of TCP/IP and UDP/IP data streams is performed.
Up to 1000 simultaneous streams are supported. Unused stream information
will be deleted after five or more seconds of inactivity.

The upstream data rate to the ISP is automatically detected. While rate
detection is underway, the ACT LEDs blink steady (half second on half second
off). When rate detection is complete the ACT LED blink when high priority
upstream traffic is being delivered.

The size of upstream TCP packets is controlled to ensures responsiveness
for high priority traffic (i.e. so that one packet can not block the
upstream pipe for too long). However, UDP packet sizes are not controlled,
since this would require IP fragmentation which would greatly decrease the
reliability of UDP data streams (note that this UDP fragmentation feature
is available in the OGV200 but has been turned off).

Web page configuration: Configuration and firmware upgrades can be done via
a web browser. The OGV200’s web address is 192.168.188.1. Note that the home
user does not need to reconfigure their PC’s subnet to access the OGV200, since
most gateways will forward the web requests automatically. However, if the
user is using the 192.168.188.x subnet locally then an alternate OGV200 address
may be used: 10.88.238.34. Note that the connection between the gateway and
the ISP must be established before the OGV200’s web pages can be accessed.

The OGV200 automatically restarts when its ISP-side Ethernet cable is unplugged
then plugged back in. This is done to reset the gateway’s WAN Ethernet
port, thereby informing it that a new connection must be established to
the ISP.

Hmmm minimizes lag. Interesting. Does it work for wifi subscribers? (Gaah. Research required. =p)

Batman @ 1:53 am:

should work on smartbro using this topology

*Without Router

modem port router port
SM —– OGV200 —— PC

*With Router

SM ——- OGV200 ——- router ——- PC

Though OGV200 sounds good, but it lacks the flexibility of being able to manage on what to prioritize
