Setting up Vonage D-Link VTA-VR
This guide will help you setup your D-Link Broadband Telephone Adapter (VTA-VR) from Vonage using Smart Bro connection. This guide also works on any service provider in the Philippines.
Requirements
Vonage D-Link VTA-VR - 1 internet/WAN port (rj45), 2 telephone ports (rj11)
Router with Enabled DHCP (Linksys WRT54GC, Mikrotik RouterOS, Linksys WRT54G,all D-Link routers etc.)
Touchtone telephone (cord or cordless)

Connecting Vonage D-Link VTA-VR to the Network
1. Plug in the touchtone telephone to Vonage D-Link VTA-VR’s telephone port 2
2. Plug in the Vonage D-Link VTA-VR to any of the vacant ports of your Router with Enabled DHCP
3. Turn on the Vonage D-Link VTA-VR.
4. Once initialized, all LEDs should light up. Pick up the phone and you should be able to get a dial tone.
You cannot connect Vonage D-Link VTA-VR directly to a smart bro connection due to device provisioning problem, but theres a workaround for this, MAC cloning.

Hi,
Thats good news
I just subscribed with Vonage today hoping that I could make it work in Manila using SmartBro Connection. I wish I could subscribe to PLDT or BayanTEL but our area doesn’t reach their service.
The Vonage Adapter that they gave me is VT2442 - VD
Can I directly connect this to the smartbro connection? I also noticed that I don’t have mac cloning as an option in my webGUI settings within the router.
Hopeless ba?
Thanks

Keplenk,
There should be a checkbox that says “Override MAC”, check that box then in the MAC field, enter the MAC address of the computer that was authenticated/registered on smartbro, save and restart.

can any one help how to set up my vonage vportal?? my isp is smart broadband thanks guys
Batman @ 10:53 pm:
raymund,
please check your vportal if it supports MAC cloning, if not then you need to have a router (linksys or dlink) to connect the vportal to. check the related links above for help on how to configure your router for smartbro connection.

Can anyone help me on how i can override MAC?
Batman @ 7:37 am:
i don’t think this VTA support’s mac cloning or overriding, so you need to have a router setup for such that supports mac cloning and connect this VTA to that router, assuming that your Internet Service Provider uses MAC address for access provisions.

We had a similar problem. In our case the Smart bro gave a private IP address of 192.168.x.x/27 while on the vonage unit, the local ethernet port has a 192.168.15.x/24 IP address, hence a conflict. What we did is just change the local ethernet IP address to say, 10.0.0.1/24. And now it works.

Hello I’m having a problem with configuring my Vonage (model:vdv21-vd) I have a smart bro connection and since i do not have a router what i did was connect the blue rj45 to my pc port and bridge it with my other port, which has the internet, now all is fine and well I have my connection now the problem is that I can’t seem to activate my device
can anyone help
p.s does this have anything to do with me not connecting the yellow port to my pc?

hello im having problem to my vonage V- portal i cant use it using smartbroadband in philippines, do i need that D link VTA- VR? please help me im paying monthly bills with my vonage but i cant use it. thanks
Batman @ 4:34 am:
Hello Connie,
Please refer to the link below, look for the advanced setup.
http://www.vonage.com/support.php?keyword=VPortal_WebUI§ionID=advanced
Also, below is the advanced setup UI image, use it as a reference to setup your mac address spoofing or mac cloning.
The setup should be like this:
1. Smartbro cable to your vonage v-portal’s internet port (color blue)
2. Connect your computer to the vonage v-portal’s LAN port (yellow)
Now, login to your vonage v-portal’s admin/setup page then click on advanced setup and then look for the MAC options. Tick the mac cloning box, the mac address of the computer connected to the LAN port of the vonage v-portal should be copied automatically to the MAC address boxes, save and restart the v-portal for the change to take effect.
Btw, the computer attached to the v-portal’s LAN port must be the computer registered to the smartbro’s network, else the above steps won’t work.

I need your help setting up my Vonage router. My sister in the US sent me a Vonage adaptor (D-Link VTA-VD) and have set it up using my ZyXel P-660HW-61 modem/router. I’ve checked all the cables and connections but whenever I picked up the phone connected to the Vonage adaptor, I get this message: “Telephone line is not provisioned for use. Please try the other line.” I have no idea what it meant since I’ve replaced all of the cables and lines connected to the devices and I still get the same message. Any idea on how to solve this? Not sure if this is relevant, but I’m connected using BayanDSL. Thanks.
Batman @ 10:21 pm:
Hello Sony,
By default, D-Link VTA-VD is set to acquire ip through DHCP or Dynamic IP. Please make sure that you have your DHCP server enabled on your Zyxel DSL router.

I’ve checked the settings and my DHCP server is enabled but I still get the same message.
