Setup Did Not Find Any Hard Disk Drives Problem Fix

I know this is a very common problem especially on laptop computers particularly on new Acer laptop series where the default SATA mode is AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface), though personally i prefer to use AHCI due to numerous benefits over its counterpart, but due to a lot of people asking on how they can solved the problem the easy way, so i am compelled to make this post for the sake of helping others, which is by the way, the main purpose of the existence of this blog.

There are two ways to get the problem fixed, one is through slipstream where you will customize the OS installation and incorporate the SATA driver into the installer, second is configure the bios to use IDE emulation. This guide will use the latter. Below are the steps on how to do it.

BIOS setting AHCI

1. Boot up your computer and press F2 or delete key.

2. Once you are able to get into the BIOS, go to Main (for acer computers) or look for SATA Mode and change it to IDE Mode (the default is AHCI Mode).

3. Press F10 and select save changes and exit.

4. Reboot and continue with the OS installation, the installer should be able to detect the drive now.

That’s all about it, hope it helps.

Thank you very much!!! Been trying to fix my laptop no-boot problem for days … looking up internet sites etc … doing what they say to fix it and no joy. Found your site … tried the fix … and just like that it fixed the problem. I have a IBM lenovo laptop running windows xp pro. The only difference to fix the problem was, when I found the correct dialogue box (as you directed) it was in SATA mode - the only other option it would give me was compatible mode(as opposed to IDE mode)- I changed it to compatible, saved the changes (F10) and re-booted: problem solved, the laptop fired straight up!!

Suresh @ 12:01 pm:

This setting couldnt make my dell studio 1555 series to login to my user account.

1. Shows blue screen and asks me to ‘Launch startup repair’
2. ‘Launch repair’ doesnt starts its process

So, i changed the setting again to ”AHCI” and logged in.
Kindly give a solution for this friends..

Thanks in advance,
Suresh
