Setup Did Not Find Any Hard Disk Drives Problem Fix

I know this is a very common problem especially on laptop computers particularly on new Acer laptop series where the default SATA mode is AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface), though personally i prefer to use AHCI due to numerous benefits over its counterpart, but due to a lot of people asking on how they can solved the problem the easy way, so i am compelled to make this post for the sake of helping others, which is by the way, the main purpose of the existence of this blog.

There are two ways to get the problem fixed, one is through slipstream where you will customize the OS installation and incorporate the SATA driver into the installer, second is configure the bios to use IDE emulation. This guide will use the latter. Below are the steps on how to do it.

BIOS setting AHCI

1. Boot up your computer and press F2 or delete key.

2. Once you are able to get into the BIOS, go to Main (for acer computers) or look for SATA Mode and change it to IDE Mode (the default is AHCI Mode).

3. Press F10 and select save changes and exit.

4. Reboot and continue with the OS installation, the installer should be able to detect the drive now.

That’s all about it, hope it helps.

I am trying to install on a laptop ACER , in bios the hard is configured as IDE,but it still crashes on setup…On other forums they say that i have to press F6 and use a floppy to install the HDD driver, is there any other way around my laptop doesn’t have a floppy drive obviously.

Download SATA drivers from manufacturers, then use N-lite to add driver to your WINDOWS CD, after that burn it again.
